Mrs. Doris M. Gannon, 84, of Gloversville, passed away May 29, 2013, at the Wilkinson Facility in Amsterdam. Daughter of the late William and Olive Grovenburg VanAvery, Doris was born August 23, 1928, in Johnstown, N.Y. She was educated in Gloversville schools and employed most of her life as a machine operator at the former MCA Corp., retiring in 1986. Early in her life, Doris also worked at the former Federal Bake Shop in Gloversville. She was also a former member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary and the former Sacred Heart Church.
Devoted to her family, Doris enjoyed all family events, especially those involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She traveled throughout the east when camping and enjoyed Myrtle Beach vacations. A lifelong animal lover, she especially loved cats and dogs and often made homes for them. Doris found time to enjoy gardening and was a wonderful cook and homemaker, always there for others. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her children, Walter W. Gannon (Carolyn) of Gloversville, Richard C. Gannon (JoAnn) of Gloversville and Roger E. Gannon of Caroga Lake. Doris is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and son-in-law, Burton Wilson Sr. of Johnstown. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dianna L. Wilson; by an infant brother, Kenneth; and by her husband, Walter Gannon.
A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the service. Urn burial in Ferndale Cemetery Johnstown, will be private and at the convenience of her family.
