John I. Evans Jr., age 75, of Mayfield, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 31, 2013, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
Mr. Evans was born on April 8, 1938, in Johnstown, the son of the late John I. Evans Sr. and Catherine (Baker) Evans.
John was a Class of 1956 graduate of Johnstown High School and was educated in Forestry Studies at Syracuse University. Mr. Evans served his country in the National Guard. He was the proprietor of Evans Auto Body Shop on South Perry Street in Johnstown for over 30 years. He then was employed as an auto body instructor at BOCES for 22 years before retiring. Mr. Evans was a faithful member of the Kingsboro Assembly of God in Gloversville. He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed skiing and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Currie Evans, whom he married on May 11, 1985; two sons, John I. Evans III of North Carolina and Michael Evans of Florida; one daughter, Cheryl Gilger of Florida; one sister, Margaret Scher of Indiana; two grandchildren, Michael and Katelyn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours or funeral services.
The family will gather for a celebration of John's life at a later date.
