Ann Vecera

Mrs. Ann Vecera, 94, of McCleary Avenue, Amsterdam, New York, passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at her residence.

She was born June 25, 1918, in Amsterdam, New York, a daughter of the late Frank and Eva Rusik. She was educated locally and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was a lifelong area resident.

Ann was employed for many years at the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Company and later by Coleco Industries in Gloversville, New York, before retiring.

Ann was an avid bowler and a devoted New York Yankees fan. She was very passionate about her gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends at their former residence in Mayfield, New York.

Mrs. Vecera was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam, New York. She was also a member of various bowling leagues.

She was married to Anthony "Tony" Vecera on May 19, 1951. He died June 27, 1997. She was also predeceased by her siblings Mary Adamski, Joseph Rusik, Nellie Casper, Julius Rusik and Edward Rusik.

Ann is survived by her brother Arthur (Frances) Rusik of Amsterdam, New York, and a sister, Jane Giardino, of Hagaman, New York. Ann was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Community Hospice of Amsterdam and special, special thanks to her caregiver Kathy Foley.

The funeral was held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis, celebrant. Interment followed at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, New York. The family received relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Montgomery County Office for Aging Meals-On-Wheels Progarm, 380 Guy Park Avenue, or to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Road, both of Amsterdam, New York 12010.
