Mr. Charles H. Bedell Jr., 93 years old, died Sunday at River Ridge Living Center, Amsterdam, where he had been a patient for the past few weeks. He was born December 31, 1919, in Gloversville, the son of Charles H. and Ida Schwartz Bedell Sr. He attended Johnstown schools and served with the U.S. Army during WW II. Mr. Bedell had been employed as a machinist with the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. He had been a member of the former St. Casimir's Church and was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Bedell was a past member of the Bigelow-Weavers Club and bowled in several leagues over the years. He enjoyed playing cards, trips to the Casino and especially the track at Saratoga.
On October 17, 1943, he married the former Helen V. Korzeniewska who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Charles H. (Gerda) Bedell III of Aurora, Colorado and Gary A. Bedell of Gloversville; his daughter, Sandra L. (Dwight) Smarup of Gloversville; five grandchildren, Amy Hutzel, Michelle Bedell, Sean Smarup, Wendy Lussier and Melanie Bedell; eight great-grandchildren, Karly, Corey, Zane, Kyle, Violet, Nathanial, Collin and Isabella Rosa; nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Bedell was predeceased by his sister, Lena Rose Van Hoesen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with Fr. John Medwid officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made: Montgomery Co.
