Paul Joseph Steenburg, 61 years old, lost his battle with cancer and went into eternal rest to be with the lord on Tuesday, Oct. 8, with his brothers and sisters by his side. Paul was born in Gloversville on Sept. 30, 1952. He was the son of the late Clarence L. and Helen M. (Bennett) Steenburg. He attended Gloversville schools and then served in the United States Army in 1969, serving in Okinawa, Japan. After the military, he worked in various leather mills and also as an auto mechanic. After moving to Schenectady 15 years ago, he worked in construction. He is survived by three children, Paul Jr., Seth and Brittany Steenburg; brothers, John (Joanne) Steenburg of Dolgeville, James and Richard Steenburg of Gloversville; his sisters, Maryanne (Irving) Mussen of PA; Carol (Roy) Sweet of Mayfield and Jo Ann (Ed) Kiffney of Gloversville. He is also survived by his companion, Kathy Pierce of Schenectady; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Paul loved the outdoors, enjoying the scenery and fishing at his favorite lakes. He was a big fan of NASCAR and football. Mark Martin and the Dallas Cowboys were his favorite. Paul had a big heart, and in showing this, he graciously bequeathed his body to Albany Medical College for anatomical study and research for cancer. His ashes will be interned at a later date to Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville, where a memorial service will be conducted. In honoring Paul's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
