Gloversville comes up short in regular-season finale, 47-7

AMSTERDAM - The Amsterdam football team celebrated homecoming with a lopsided 56-19 win over South Glens Falls in a Class A Northwest Division contest at Lynch Literacy Academy on Saturday.

The Rugged Rams raced out to a 28-7 lead after one quarter and led 49-13 at the half on their way to the victory.

Bryan Stanavich made it 14-0 with a 15-yard run.

Alonzo Martin hauled in a 47-yard pass to give the Rugged Rams a 21-0 lead.

Julian Gallup added a touchdown run in the opening quarter to make it 28-7 after one quarter.

Stephen Hubinsky returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown for South Glens Falls' lone touchdown of the first quarter.

Stanavich caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Gallup to open the second-quarter scoring.

Jon Magaletti and Brady McGillin scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 52 yards, respectively, to give Amsterdam a 49-7 lead in the second quarter.

Louie DeRidder threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Fish in the second quarter for South Glens Falls (0-7 overall, 0-4 Class A Northwest).

After leading 49-13 at the half, Martin scored on a 43-yard run to give the Rugged Rams a 56-13 advantage after three quarters.

South Glens Falls scored the lone touchdown of the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by Reggie Viger to make the final score 56-19.

Amsterdam kicker Marcus Pritchard was 8-for-8 on extra-point attempts in the game.

Pritchard has 34 PATs on the season, a new single-season record for the Rugged Rams.

Amsterdam (4-3 overall, 2-2 Class A Northwest) now awaits their pairings for the Section II Class A Tournament, which will be announced today.

The Rugged Rams are expected to earn a date at Class A Southeast runner-up Averill Park (4-3 overall) next Friday at 7 p.m.

Amsterdam defeated the Warrior sin a wild 56-44 contest on Sept. 6 at Averill Park in the season opener for both teams.

Queensbury 47, Gloversville 7

QUEENSBURY - Brett Rodriguez scored three touchdowns and gained 166 yards on 10 carries, leading Queensbury to a win over Gloversville.

Rodriguez scored on runs of 33, 80 and 11 yards for Queensbury (7-0 overall, 4-0 Class A Northwest), which outscored Gloversville 20-7 in the second quarter to take a 26-7 lead at the half.

Kalen Minott scored on runs of 33 yards and 6 yards for the Spartans, while Kody Bruno added a 46-yard touchdown run. Ian Kirkpatrick added a 6-yard touchdown run for Queensbury, which outgained Gloversville 393 to minus-6 yards on the ground.

Asa Barnhill scored the lone touchdown for Gloversville (4-3 overall, 1-3 Class A Northwest). Barnhill scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter for the Huskies.

Both teams now await the pairings for the Section II Class A Tournament, which will be announced today. Gloversville is expected to earn a quarterfinal date with Class A Southeast Division champ Troy (5-2 overall) on Friday in Troy.
