Several area basketball teams take to the court during holiday break

A five-day stretch of holiday basketball begins today for area teams and fans.

The Mayfield girls will host their annual holiday tournament beginning tonight.

The host Panthers (4-3 overall) will face Gloversville (0-4 overall) at 7:30 p.m., while Galway will meet Schoharie in the opening game at 6 p.m. The tournament concludes Friday with the consolation game slated for 6 p.m., followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The Dolgeville boys and girls also will be in action today at the Adirondack Tournament. Both teams will face host Adirondack in the opening round with the boys game slated for 6 p.m. and the girls game set for 4 p.m. The tournament will conclude Friday with the championship and consolation games.

On Friday, the holiday hoop schedule hits full stride as the Northville and Canajoharie boys host tournament, while the Broadalbin-Perth and Amsterdam girls host their annual holiday events.

The Northville boys will face Duanesburg at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the Woodward Tournament, while Galway and Doane Stuart will face off in the other first-round contest at 6 p.m. The tourney will conclude on Saturday with the championship game slated for 7:30 p.m. and the consolation game set for 6 p.m.

Johnstown and host Canajoharie will compete in the Andy Palmer Classic. The 3-2 Sir Bills will face Schoharie at 6 p.m., while the 4-2 Cougars will face Little Falls at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will conclude Saturday with the consolation game set for 6 p.m., followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

The Fort Plain boys also will be in action Friday at the Dick White Holiday Tournament in Cooperstown. The 2-4 Hilltoppers will face Sidney at 6 p.m., while host Cooperstown will meet Cobleskill-Richmondville in the other first-round contest. The tournament concludes Saturday with the consolation game at 6 p.m., followed by the championship contest.

Also in action Friday will be the Fonda-Fultonville boys, who will host Central Valley in a non-league contest at 3 p.m.

In girls action Friday, Broadalbin-Perth (2-2 overall) will face Stillwater at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Broadalbin-Perth Holiday Tournament. Schenectady will face Hudson at 5:30 p.m. in the other first-round contest. The tourney will conclude Saturday with the consolation game set for 5:30 p.m., followed by the championship game at 7 p.m.

The Amsterdam girls will host their annual Holiday College Showcase on Friday and Saturday.

Johnstown (3-1 overall) will face Mekeel Christian at 1 p.m., while Amsterdam will face Corcoran at 2:30 p.m. Other first-day matchups feature Guilderland against Tamarac at 4 p.m., Shaker against St. Laurent at 5:30 p.m., and Albany against Binghamton at 7 p.m.

The two-day showcase concludes Saturday with host Amsterdam facing Mekeel Christian at 5:30 p.m. and Johnstown meeting Tamarac at 4 p.m. Binghamton will face Shaker at 11:30 a.m., Corcoran will face Guilderland at 1 p.m., and St. Laurent will meet Albany at 2:30 p.m.

Also in action Friday will be the Canajoharie girls, who will face Central Valley in the opening round of the Kasner Klassic at Little Falls at 6 p.m. The tournament concludes Saturday with the consolation game set for 6 p.m., followed by the championship game.

On Saturday, the Gloversville boys will host the first day of the three-day Coach Kobuskie Holiday Tournament. Amsterdam will face Mekeel Christian at 1:30 p.m. On Sunday, the host Dragons will face Columbia Prep at 5:30 p.m., and the tournament will conclude Monday with the consolation game set for 1:30 p.m., followed by the championship game at 3 p.m.

In other non-tournament action, the Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville girls will host Richfield Springs in a non-league contest Saturday at 11:30 a.m., while the Northville girls will host Hadley-Luzerne at 1 p.m. on Saturday in a non-league contest.

On Monday, the Gloversville girls will host Albany Leadership in a non-league contest at 7 p.m.
