James A. Schwed, 72, of Gloversville passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2014 at his home.
Born November 29, 1941 in Gloversville he was a son of the late Morris and Isabelle Schwed.
James graduated from Gloversville High School in 1959. He proudly served his county in the Air Force from 1960-1964. James received an Associate's degree in Accounting from FMCC then went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the College of St. Rose. After college James went to work for General Electric where he retired from after 29 years of loyal service. Following retirement Jim enjoyed playing golf with his buddies from GE. James was very active with local politics where he served on the Supervisory Committee and was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Turbine Credit Union now Sunmark. He also was a Gloversville City Councilmen from 1988-1992 for Ward 4 and former Fulton County Supervisor Gloversville Ward 1 from 1995-1999.

Jim married Carol A. Reppenhagen on November 2, 1999; she sadly passed away June 14, 2013. Jim and Carol enjoyed their family and friends either at their favorite restaurant or spending time on the deck poolside at their home. They loved to travel, especially to their home in St. Martin.
Survivors include his sons Richard J. Schwed (Juanita) of Gloversville and Phillip M. Schwed of Denver, CO; daughter Deborah L. Orsell (Thomas) of Johnstown; step daughters Heather Reppenhagen of Albany and Shannon Payne (Todd) of Northville; step son Jeremy Jerebak of Gloversville; grandchildren Dylan, Marcus and Camille Schwed, Jaime Schwed and Madisyn and Victor Orsell. Jim is also survived by his beloved dogs Bailey, Bella, Bree, Max and Zack. Besides his wife and parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brothers Morris Jr. and Richard.
Visitation which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 5-8 P.M. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home 51 Fremont Street Gloversville, NY 12078. Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning April 24, 2014 10 A.M.at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery Gloversville.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society 437 Nine Mile Tree Road Gloversville, NY 12078.
