Mark Andrew Kralovic

April 22, 2014
The Leader Herald

Mark Andrew Kralovic of Wells, NY, son of the late Stephen V. and Catherine Shields Kralovic, passed away on Friday, April 18, after being stricken at his home. He was 61.

Mark grew up in Johnstown and graduated Johnstown High School in 1971 where he played football for the Sir Bills. He was an avid member of the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. Mark was a graduate of Paul Smith's College with an AS degree in Forestry.

His lifetime love of all things outdoors led to his employment with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation where he served as a Forest Ranger for nearly 30 years until his retirement in April 2011. He was first posted to the Adirondacks, a goal for many rangers, which, according to an article in the Leader-Herald in 2008 profiling his life, quoted him as saying that "suits him just fine." He remained there for the duration of his career. His responsibilities included trail and land maintenance and he was often involved in search and rescue missions to which he applied his energies with dedication and honed experience of the area. His duties took him across the country as far north as Maine and as far west as California to fight fires. Mark was active in the Annual Olde Home Days Celebrations and a proud participant in the Annual Pinhead Family Picnics.
