FULTONVILLE - An opening-lap scramble almost derailed Marc Johnson's and Bobby Varin's quest for victory in the modified feature Sunday night at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
Varin, who leads the points standings with Johnson second, suffered right-side body damage in a backstretch scramble but marched forward to take the lead from early race leader Korey Wilder on a lap 18 restart and hold off Johnson for his fourth feature win of the season.
Joining Varin with feature wins Sunday at The Ridge were Shea Montgomery (602 Sportsman), Chuck Dumblewski (Pro Stock), Keith Tesiero Sr. (4-cyl.), Dave Horning Sr. (Street Stock), Kyle Fallis (Xcell 600) and Brett Putnam (Slingshot).

Chad Miller and Erik Mack brought the field of 12 modifieds to the green with Mack taking the early lead. Miller got out of shape exiting turn two and sent the majority of the field scrambling, avoiding contact and keeping the race under the green flag.
Debris on the speedway led to a lap three caution, which Wilder made the most of to get ahead of Mack on the restart.
Wilder and Mack put distance between themselves and the rest of the field, while Varin steadily picked his way to the front and settled into third on lap six.
Varin moved into second behind Wilder on lap 14 and Johnson fell into third before the caution flew on lap 17.
Wilder chose the outside on the restart but Varin found enough bite on the bottom to grab the lead with Johnston third, Craig Hanson fourth and Kenny Tremont fifth.
Johnson got by Wilder for second with 10 laps remaining as Hanson and Tremont crossed the line in a dead heat for fourth.
Opportunity knocked for Johnson on a pair of restarts in the closing laps, but Varin was up to the challenge as he held off Johnson for his second-straight and fourth win of the season.
Johnson crossed the line second followed by Tremont, JaMike Sowle and Hanson.
Derrick McGrew set the early pace in the 602 sportsman feature with Laudy Hoyenga running second, while Montgomery and John Miller battling for third.
A series of cautions and restarts between lap six and eight kept McGrew close to the pack and allowed Montgomery to get up to second, and also brought division points leader Rocky Warner from his 15th starting spot to fifth.
A lap 17 caution proved costly to McGrew as Montgomery made the most of the restart to grab the lead away from McGrerw and brought Warner to third.
Warner got past McGrew on lap 24 but could not chase down Montgomery as the checkers fell over his hood for his first feature win of season.
McGrew finished third with Justin Combs fourth and Chad Edwards fifth.
Randy Cosselman and Jim Normoyle exchanged leads in the opening laps of the pro stock main event before Normoyle gained control on lap three. A.J. Walters pulled into second on lap six with Nick Stone settling into third on lap nine.
Stone moved up to second on a lap 11 restart, with Cosselman coming back up to third with Luke Horning fourth and Dumblewski fifth.
Dumblewski continued his march to the front, taking second from Stone on lap 15 and then wrestled the lead away from Normoyle on a lap 16 restart.
Stone made a bid for the lead but dropped back with problems on the No. 27N.
Robbie Speed picked up the pursuit but could not chase down Dumblewski as he collected his first win of the season at The Ridge and snapped Stone's six-race win streak.
Speed was second followed by Gus Hollner, Normoyle and Stone.
Fallis pulled off a last-lap, last turn-pass to pick up his first win of the season over Will Eastman, while Brett Putnam made it three wins in three weeks in the Slingshot division and Tesiero Sr. got his second win of the weekend and third straight at Glen Ridge in the 4-cylinder division.
Glen Ridge Motorsports Park will switch its race night to Fridays starting this week.
