FORT PLAIN - The 27th annual 4th on the 3rd Fourth of July Celebration, sponsored by the Fort Plain Community Activities Council, will take place July 3 at Wiles Park in the village.
The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. with the Mohawk River Fishing Derby. Sign-ups will be at the Sportsman's Den on Canal Street for children and adult classes. The derby is free and sponsored by the Central Mohawk Valley Lions Club, and concludes at 3 p.m.; trophies will be awarded at 5 p.m. at DJ headquarters.
New this year will be a demonstration by the Civil War reenactors from the NY 125th Volunteer Infantry Regiment, including a Civil War surgeon's tent, encampment and period rifle demonstration, a news release said.
Activities for children will include a bounce house, inflatable slide and obstacle course. Food concessions will be available from 3 to 9 p.m. Horse-drawn hay wagon rides to the Fort Plain Museum and back will operate from 4 to 8 p.m.
The Emeralds of July Band will perform from 4 to 7 p.m. A Little League All-Star exhibition game between Fort Plain and Canajoharie will begin at 4 p.m. A rock-climbing wall will be available from 5 to 9 p.m., and Empower Federal Credit Union will sponsor an old-time photo booth and Melvin the Magnificent Balloon Artist for free from 4 to 8 p.m.
Wayne Tucker will DJ and emcee from 3 to 11 p.m. in Wiles Park. A craft fair and non-profit booths will be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Brooks Chicken Barbecue dinners will be sold by the Fort Plain Reformed Church from 4 to 7 p.m. There is a separate parking area for take-outs; ask at the park entrance.
A petting zoo and pony rides will be available from 5 to 9 p.m.
Just for Fun Bingo with prizes will begin at 6 p.m,, along with sign-ups for the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks Club Horseshoe Tournament. Play will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Rusty Mento Blue River Band will perform from 8 to 11 p.m.
The fireworks display will take place at 9:45 p.m. The Bonfire and Community Sing-Along begins at 10 p.m., when the fireworks display concludes.
The River Street bridge crossing the Mohawk River at Nelliston is expected to be closed June 27 for repairs. visitors from the north side of the river are asked to cross at St. Johnsville or Canajoharie, the release said.
