I'm with all of you. There is no way that I will get that shot. I lost my trust in most medical decisions when public health decided to swarm the government and have them mandate, mandate, mandate. I truly believe that if they knew for sure that the vaccination was safe, they would be leaving it up to the individual to choose, like they do for the seasonal shot. Public Health and Government can feel free to warn me, but then they can also feel free to leave me alone and let me make my own decision.

Thank you GoGreen for answering my question. I would not worry about what usedtolivethere has to say. I am sure they are one of the ones allowing themselves into being bullied into the vaccination. First it is the bird flu now this next year??? yada yada yada. Ten or so years down the road they will probably have complications from it that will be denied as complications from the vaccine and they will be left to figure out how to care for their family as they slowly slip away or worse because the government will refuse to claim and except any responsibility. If someone chooses not to get the vaccine that is their choice. To tell them they have to is unconstitutional and just flat out wrong.

With New York State being the first state to make the Swine Flu Vaccine a state mandate for health professional workers, they can be setting the state up for some problems down the road. No one (not even usedto) know what the long term side effects of this new vaccine will be. If the side effects result in permanent, terminal or debilitating conditions - who then is responsible for that. The government needs to allow the people to make their own decisions. Get the vaccine or lose your job - what are they going to do if this flu season turns into the one with record breaking cases and hundreds of health workers decide to exercise their right to decline? We will have a shortage of health care providers. The government - just always thinking aren't they.

Well with that nice introduction from usedtolive, I'ld like to add that one can develop Guillain-Barre' Syndrome after having of a respiratory or gastrointestinal viral infection and occosionally after pregnancy, surgery, or vaccinations. So the vaccine and the actual Swine Flu both fall into the contributing factors. It's a personal decision. The best thing people can do to protect themself (and not only during flu season) is to practice proper handwashing and avoid touching your face with your hands. With that being said I'll hand it over to usedto so he/she can bash me.

I am betting that people will look back and say that most were worried for nothing! They survived it in the 70's. I am sure we can survive it now! People need to stop bubble rapping themselves and their children just because the government leads them to believe that it is the right thing to do. Do the research yourself and if you find that it is the right thing for you than go for it but don't let yourself be bullied into it!

Has anyone ever heard of Guillain-Barre' Syndrome? I am sorry but common sense people can help stop the spread of H1N1 just like common sense can stop the spread of the regular flu. I for one have never had a regular flu shot(only had the flu once when I was younger)and I am not going to have the H1N1 one either. Aggravating to Dr's since I am what they consider a high risk for catching such things dew to weakened lungs and other issues.

To get the vaccine or not - it is a personal choice and we each have the RIGHT to choose. I myself never had the seasonal flu vaccine and I do not plan I getting the Swine Flu Vaccine. Yet again we are called "ignorant" for exercising our right to decline the vcccine - amazing.MadAmerican I'm sure there are many Dems declining as well - you always have to throw in that dig to Republicans - can't you find a different song to sing. Check the polls -70% (in your mind) are ignorant Republicans - well that's good come November I hope that 70% cleans [the] house!!

I've heard this vaccine thing is a government conspiracy - once you get the shot, you start thinking like a liberal.

Go to ****flu.gov for the most up-to-date information regarding H1N1 and seasonal influenza.

FireKatt - I agree there has not been adequate testing/research on the vaccine. People are in a panic. The seasonal flue kills thousand each year, still many do not get he seasonal flu shot. Cigarette smoking and second hand smoke related deaths far exceed seasonal flu and swine flue related deaths. So how many plan on quitting this year?

If I did own some pigs, I'd probably get them innoculated, especially the ones that linger around until closing time.

This vaccine is full of mercury and squalene amoung other healthhazzards dont takealso by the time its available the flu season will already reach its peek. This vaccine is moredangerous than the flu.

My oh my misinformed people still are Swine flu isn't about pigs although I hope thi is just sarcasim but H1N1 is serious business nd if you are in a target group such as if you already have pre-existing medical conditions you need to be vaccinated. If you are a healthcare professional you need to be vaccinated. If you are between 6 months old and 42 you need to be vaccinated. If you work with the public [high traffic like for instance a restaurant] you need to be vaccinated. Not getting vaccinated is hurting not only you but puts a greater number of people at risk.

No. I don't even own any pigs, although I've seen a lot of them around the bar at closing time.

mamaduke - schools state it is a state mandate for all children to have certain vaccines to enter school. I am aware of a parent who does not vaccinate their children and they are still in school. I asked them how they got "away" with this and was told it is their Constitutional right to decline vaccines and they present some form of documentation to the school every year backing their rights.

lol adirondackal Unfortunately I don't want to get the shot but the hospital I work at is instituting a "state mandate" that all health care workers get it. In the long run though, if it protects my patients it is worth it.
