I agree with EJ. Taxpayers may very well be the ones paying the salaries of the judges but just remember, you get what you pay for.

I think people are just tapped out. So when they see an already highly paid official wanting more...it may rankle some.

The raises the judges deserve is being held hostage by the speaker of the assembly. Silverstein will not allow these raises unless the assembly members get one. Meanwhile judges make less than first year attornies in NYC. If this isn't fixed the only juges who will take these jobs are the ones who can't get better jobs. If you show up in court do you want a less than capable judge or the best judge to hear your case. This whole thing is just politacal abuse by the new york dictator siverstein.

No one is saying they don't deserve one or has waited to long for one, they are asking where the money will come from. Maybe they should go on strike, like a schoolteacher has to at times and be under contract to be a judge like teachers have to. Many teachers do the job, knowing they will never be rich, but they have the desire to make our children rich with knowledge, something far more valuable than dollars. Pay the teachers first and then there might be less need of higher paid judges or even high paid lawyers!

Judges are people too. Im sorry, give credit where credit is due. These folks have not had a raise in 10 years. Would anyone keep a job with no raises in 10 years. I think not. Be realistic.

and it really doesn't matter if we say please no more...these people will still get the raise so we will still have to dig deeper into our pockets taking away from our own children.

Where are they finding the money for this increase? Oh yeah, from the increase in tobacco tax.
