Former Union College goalie Connor Murphy recorded his first American Hockey League shutout Wednesday night.
Murphy, a Hudson Falls native, stopped 34 shots to lead the Calgary Wranglers to a 2-0 victory over the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Murphy, who played for Union from 2021-23, is 2-2-2 with the Wranglers, who are affiliated with the NHL’s Calgary Flames. He has a 2.48 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage in nine games.
Sam Morton, who played for Union from 2018-20, scored one of the Wranglers’ goals. Morton has two goals for the Wranglers since joining them after completing his fourth season at Minnesota State.
