AMSTERDAM - An Amsterdam man has been arrested, accused of firing a gun from a porch at someone on the sidewalk, police said Wednesday.

No injuries were reported.

Travis Smith, 49, was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count each of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, felonies.

The investigation began April 16 when police received a call for a reported shooting at 11 a.m. that day in the area of West Main and Bayard streets, police said.

Police soon found witnesses who identified Smith as the shooter, saying he'd  fired a handgun from the porch. Other witnesses, supported by video surveillance, indicated he'd fired at someone on the sidewalk after a dispute.

The shot missed the individual and hit a house. No one was hurt.

Smith then fled the scene and the area. Police determined he'd relocated to Brooklyn and, Wednesday, he was taken into custody there by the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force.

He was brought back to Amsterdam, processed and arraigned. He was ordered held without bail.
