The Fonda-Fultonville Central School District FFA will hold its first ever 5K race to raise money for the club’s competition trips. The race will feature an agriculture-themed obstacle course as a nod to the club’s mission.“I know a lot of people are into 5Ks so I thought why not put a little twist on it and make it farm or outdoors themed to be more enjoyable,” said Jessica Holmes, high school agriculture teacher and FFA adviser. GLOVERSVILLE - When Ann Trojan first got her dog Gabe, the plan was for him to compete in Dock Diving, a sport where dogs jump into water and are judged by distance and/or height. Bishop Emeritus Howard Hubbard, who guided the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany for nearly four decades and came under fire in recent years for his handling of child sexual abuse cases, as well as abuse accusations made against him directly, died Saturday at Albany Medical Center.Hubbard, a Troy native, was known as a champion of social justice causes during his tenure leading his home diocese from 1977 to 2014. GLOVERSVILLE - The Gloversville Enlarged School District has expanded the school day in an effort to help improve academic performance. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade will see their instructional day increase by 20 minutes, and those in sixth through twelfth grade by 16 minutes. Before the change, GESD had the shortest instructional day in the region. Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education approves centralized school bus pick-up spots

JOHNSTOWN -- The Greater Johnstown School District will begin using centralized school bus pick-up spots for the 2023-24 school year. Rather than door-to-door service, students will walk to assigned pick-up locations along the route to increase efficiency. The locations of the centralized pick-up spots have not yet been determined. Once the full route is planned, the district will be able to select the best spots based on factors such as safety and the number of students living in each area.
