ALBANY - Following years of contentious debate surrounding the state’s bail reform laws, and multiple legislative changes, a new study finds the bail reform laws had little impact on crime. The study, published this month by Sishi Wu, a recent PhD recipient and a professor at the University at Albany’s School of Justice, found the jail population dropped from 2019 to 2020, which was one of the reform laws' goals to help overpopulation in the state’s jails and prisons. ALBANY - As the end of the legislative session nears, state lawmakers and advocates from Mothers Against Drunk Driving are renewing a push to pass a bill that they say would close loopholes in the state’s drunk driving laws by mandating an ignition interlock device for offenders. Dennis Drue, drunk driver who caused crash that killed two Shenendehowa High students, released from prison

ALBANY — Dennis Drue, the drunk driver who caused a 2012 Northway crash that killed two teens and injured two others, was released from prison on Thursday morning, state officials confirmed. Drue was serving 5 to 15 years in state prison at Collins Correctional Facility in Saratoga County after pleading guilty in 2013 in the 58-count indictment against him.
