A Johnstown police officer responded to an alleged attack with gunfire, state police reported Sunday.
An officer was allegedly hit with a weapon while responding to an emergency home assault call on Washington Street. The alleged perpetrator was then shot and sent to Nathan Littauer Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The officer was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to state police.
Police responded to the shooting at 7:57 a.m. Both city and state officials were at the scene.
No additional information will be released at this time, including the ages, names and genders of those involved in the case, according to state police spokesperson Stephanie O’Neil. Details regarding the weapon and the extent of the officer’s injuries are also unclear.
“The incident is currently under investigation,” O’Neil said in an email. “The name of the deceased individual will not be released at this time.”
Throughout Sunday, multiple requests for comment were sent to Johnstown police.
