Marianne’s Deli under new ownership

GLOVERSVILLE – Roman Singleton is carrying on his family’s three-generation legacy in the restaurant business after recently taking ownership of Marianne’s Deli.

Marianne’s Deli, 82 W. Eighth Ave., offers cut deli meat, submarine sandwhiches, chips, ice cream, soda, candy, groceries and more.

Marriane’s has a long history in the area. The deli was founded by Roman’s mother, Marianne Sanderson, in the mid 1990s, operated by her and Singleton’s stepfather Hal for about 17 years, he said.

Singleton’s grandparents owned a restaurant in the 60s and 70s in Amsterdam many may remember as Scafidi Restauarant.

“The family has been in the food business for about 40 or 50 years,” Singleton said.

He said customers will find the same service and value and much of the same products as when his mother and stepfather ran the business.

“She had a great business, so it’d be crazy to change the formula,” Singleton said.

He said though his mother retired, she still helps out behind the scenes.

The deli is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are daily lunch specials that include a 6- inch sub with chips and a can of soda.

The menu includes a variety of sub sandwiches, hot subs, wraps, salads and fried fare.
