JOHNSTOWN — Something new could start brewing soon in Fulton County.
Out-of-area stakeholders have submitted plans to open a 7 Brew Coffee drive-thru-only location in the heart of Johnstown’s commercial district.
The Midwestern chain boasts more than 20,000 different flavor combinations for smoothies, tea, shakes, and coffee, all delivered within a two-lane drive-thru in an effort to accelerate service. The location would create between 40 and 50 jobs.
“We believe we are the face of a coffee revolution with our unique speed of service coupled with quality products,” said franchise owner Lawrence Wilson in a letter to the Johnstown city Planning Board.
In order to start building what is expected to be a $320,000 project at the former Pizza Hut off North Comrie Avenue, site plans must be reviewed by the Fulton County Planning Commission and final approval is required by city planning officials.
Wilson, in the letter, boasted about the structure of the small facility proposal. He said the 540-square-foot building has “multiple exterior cladding material options to meet local requirements” and its canopy is weatherized for employees and customers.
The Planning Board is expected to begin reviewing the project on Wednesday.
The Leader-Herald reached out to the company and franchisee for more details on the prospective project.
7 Brew opened its first location in Rogers, Arkansas in 2017 and began to expand within, and eventually beyond, state borders. The company currently has more than 50 locations operational, most of which are franchised.
Wilson, and business partner Brandon Sebald, hope to develop more than 200 franchised new locations across the country. Last week, the chain opened its first New York location in Vestal, Broome County.
Johnstown has been home to outer-boundary fast-food chains in the past. Godfather’s Pizza, an Iowa-based fast-food chain once sat on North Comrie, in coordination with then-Marathon Petroleum Corp.
The city’s arterial corridor on state Highway 30A has been the hot spot of commercial business in Fulton County since the late 1950s, when that stretch of the road was completed and properties along it were given direct assess to the busy thoroughfare. Daily traffic averages 10,132, the state Department of Transportation last reported in 2019.
Traffic on the thoroughfare is, in part, what attracted Popeyes Louisiana Chicken last year to scout a location at the former site of Cranesville Block Company’s old garage. The bayou-themed fast-food restaurant is expected to open within the last quarter of this year or the first quarter of next year.
