Local chamber seeks scholarship applicants

GLOVERSVILLE – Applications for the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce scholarship program are available.

For 2016, the chamber will award at least four $1,000 academic scholarships.

Eligible applicants must be seniors graduating from a Fulton or Montgomery County high school in June 2016 or be previous graduates of high schools from either county, and must be entering or attending a two- or four-year accredited college or university as of September 2016, a news release said.

Academic winners will be chosen by the chamber’s Scholarship Committee, whose members will review applicants’ qualifications in scholastic achievement, community involvement, school activities and economic need, the news release said.

Applicants are asked to submit a 500-word essay explaining their career goals and why the scholarship is important to them.

For a scholarship application, call the chamber at 725-0641, stop by the chamber offices at 2 N. Main St., Gloversville, or 1166 Riverfront Center in Amsterdam, or e-mail [email protected].

Applications also are available in high school guidance offices and on the chamber website at www.fultonmontgomeryny.org/pages/Scholarship2016.

The deadline for receipt by the chamber of completed applications and accompanying materials is April 1 at 5 p.m.

Since its inception 27 years ago, the chamber’s scholarship program has provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to regional school students, the news release said. The 2016 academic scholarships were funded through the chamber’s Scholarship Golf Tournament, which took place in August.
