GLOVERSVILLE — The Gloversville High School Scitamard Drama Club will present three showings of “Once Upon A Mattress” this weekend.

The shows are scheduled for

7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Gloversville High School auditorium.

If you thought you knew the story of “The Princess and The Pea,” you may be in for a surprise.

Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night?

Carried on a wave of wonderful songs that are hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans.

You need to see Gabriella Fernandez as Princess Winnifred, Gabby brings so much energy to the role she will have you on the edge of your seat. Jay White brings his comic side to the Jester role. Kylie Griffiths plays the Queen and Jonathan plays her over-protected son Dauntless.

Coming to the stage for the first time is Ben Person, as Sir Harry.

Andre Storto brings his own special light to the Wizard. Nia Person brings such a presence to Lady Larkin. Rebecca Brown-Weinstock brings her own special persona to the Minstrel.

Tickets are available at the door and the doors open 30 minutes before the show.

There will be an intermission with concessions.

Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for students.
