AMSTERDAM — Mary McGiffin recently donated another of 76 baby blankets to St. Mary’s Healthcare toward her goal of making 100 baby blankets to donate to The Birthplace at St. Mary’s, Amsterdam.

Each one is different, colorful and ready for presentation to new families.

Julia Shafer, director of Women’s Services at St. Mary’s Healthcare said she was overwhelmed by McGiffin’s talent and generosity.

“We have so many families who are benefiting from these beautiful blankets; they clearly convey the message that someone cares about not only our new babies but our new families,” Shafer said. “Our staff is thrilled to be able to present these blankets — and to see the grateful faces of the recipients.”

Shafer said McGiffin goal of 100 blankets is only a small number away.

“Mary’s enthusiasm is irresistible and I have no doubt that she will meet her goal to create 100 blankets, said Shafer. “Her caring spirit is a shining example of what’s right in the world — simple acts of loving kindness that can make a great impact. I can’t wait to see what she will do next.”
