Golf tourneys to aid libraries planned

CANAJOHARIE — Two golf tournaments will be held to aid area Mohawk Valley libraries on May 18 with 9 a.m. shotgun start at the Mohawk Club, Schenectady, and July 30 at 9 a.m. at the Canajoharie Golf and Country Club.

They are sponsored by the Foundation for Mohawk Valley Libraries, the grassroots funding arm of the Mohawk Valley Library System, that supports Dream and Do Grants to the 14 public libraries of Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties at 22 locations.

The May 18 Mohawk Club Memorial Tourney honors Esther Swanker of Schenectady, an advocate for libraries, a founding member of The Foundation for Mohawk Valley Libraries, and a guiding force behind making the golf outing at the Mohawk Club the premier fundraising event for the foundation.

The details are as follows: Play golf at $135 per individual ($540 per foursome) inclusive continental breakfast, drinks throughout the day, buffet luncheon, door prizes, skill awards, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and access to the great Mohawk Club Golf Pro Shop. Additional lunch only is $40.

The foundation is beginning its fourth year of funding ‘Dream and Do Grants’ to MVLS member libraries that support a range of projects above and beyond the system, the state, and the local initiative which will benefit the specific constituent community. The libraries empower individuals to find success and enjoyment through boosting early literacy, providing educational materials & classes, access to technology, and promoting efficiency and collaboration.
