AMSTERDAM — A local attorney is throwing her hat into the ring as a candidate for Amsterdam’s third Ward, according to a news release.
Kimberly Van Wormer was raised in Amsterdam and is the daughter of Nancy and Frank Van Wormer and a sibling of Sara Van Wormer and Chris Van Wormer. As a mother of four young children, including a set of twins, her main priority is to have greater involvement in the Amsterdam community and help Amsterdam become a better place to live and work.
After Amsterdam High School, Van Wormer graduated from Russell Sage College with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies. She also graduated from a joint-program between Union Graduate College and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai with a master’s degree in bioethics, which is a multidisciplinary field that draws upon medicine, law, theology, philosophy and economics, in order to address ethical dilemmas that arise in political settings.
Shortly thereafter, she completed the Summer Institute at the Yale Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics.
Lastly, she graduated from Albany Law School with a Juris Doctorate.
Currently, Van Wormer works as a solo attorney and practices criminal defense, personal injury and family law. As a lawyer, she is dedicated, enthusiastic, and passionate about representing those in the local community, particularly those with less access to the legal system, the release said.
Van Wormer is keenly aware of the financial challenges facing the city of Amsterdam. As a lawyer and an ethicist, her unique experiences have given her a great deal of objectivity, intellect and analytical skills to make wise decisions and help steer the city of Amsterdam in the right direction.
During this campaign, she has seen and met with many people in the city and is hopeful to work with so many good, honest, caring people who work tirelessly to improve the city.
According to the release, Van Wormer welcomes any and all opinions, comments, and concerns about the future of the city of Amsterdam, regardless of political affiliation.
