GLOVERSVILLE – City police said a man was arrested for helping his brother steal and sell firearms.
Burt Belden Jr., 21, of 121 N. Second St., Northville, was charged Monday with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
His brother, Timothy Belden, 24, also was arrested Monday on several charges stemming from multiple investigations involving the theft of guns and stealing checks.
Police said during the investigation it was learned Timothy’s brother, Burt Belden Jr., assisted him with taking the firearms and selling them.
With the assistance of local gun shops, four guns were tracked down and recovered, police said. However, police said, there are nine handguns that have not been recovered.
Police said there is reason to believe that several of the handguns were sold to people in Gloversville.
Timothy Belden was charged by city police with theft of services, petit larceny and two felony counts of fourth-degree grand larceny – one count for the firearms and the other for the checks.
If anyone has information regarding these stolen firearms, call Det. Joe Kadle at 773-4502 or Det. Sgt. Mike Jory at 773-4569.
