GLOVERSVILLE – City police said two men were arrested Friday after stealing and then selling a transmission to a local scrap yard.
Donald E. Morehouse, 21, of 9 Chestnut St. and Matthew E. Poyfair, 21, of 189 Lily Lake Road, were both charged with third-degree burglary, a felony and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
Police said Morehouse and Poyfair entered part of the Chris Rizzo Trucking Inc. business at 97 Second St. and stole a transmission and transfer case from inside the premises.
The two then sold the stolen parts at a local scrap yard, police said.
The scrap yard assisted the business and the officers with obtaining descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle they used, police said.
Capt. John Sira said the two stole a transmission and transfer case that were sitting around and not in a vehicle.
Morehouse and Poyfair were arrested on City Court arrest warrants after the investigation, police said.
Both were arraigned before City Court Judge Traci DiMezza and sent to the Fulton County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail.
City police also are investigating a separate theft of a cast iron IP valve from 97 Second St., reported to police Jan. 2. The cast iron valve was described as gray in color with a long handle and said to resemble a fire hydrant, police said.
Police do not have enough evidence at this time to suggest these incidents are related, a news release said.
