Pooch rescued from icy water

AMSTERDAM – City police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office worked Tuesday night to save a small brown dog that fell into the water near Lock 11 on the Erie Canal.

According to Montgomery County Emergency Management’s Facebook page, the departments made several attempts to rescue the dog before city police K-9 officer Stephen Pasquarelli and deputy Jeremy Liggett used the Sheriff’s Office’s airboat to get the dog out of the water.

An official with the city Fire Department said the dog was noticed on the ice by lock workers around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The dog was said to be recovering at a local animal hospital.
