Heavy wind caused some trees and branches to fall in parts of local counties Thursday, resulting in some power outages.
As of 2 p.m. Thursday, National Grid was reporting 426 customers in Fulton County, 545 in Montgomery County and 795 in Hamilton County were without power. This morning, however, the utility reported only 16 customers without power in Fulton County, about five in Montgomery County and none in Hamilton County.
The National Weather Service, which issued a high-wind warning for the three counties Thursday, reported wind speeds of 23 mph in the Gloversville area today, with gusts of around 31 mph.
Gloversville Fire Chief Beth Whitman-Putnam said this morning her department responded to one call of trees and branches down at Harrison Street in Gloversville. Johnstown Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Kollar said trees and branches were down on Fon Clair and Melcher streets in Johnstown.
Fulton County Fire Coordinator Allan Polmateer said some trees were on wires at Canada Lake and Caroga Lake, and there were reports of a tree down in Ephratah. He said damage from wind was minimal in the county.
In Montgomery County, Undersheriff Jeff Smith said some utility customers lost power in Glen on Thursday. His department received seven calls of trees or wires down, he said.
