GLOVERSVILLE – Police are reminding motorists not to block sidewalks when they park.
Chief Donald VanDeusen said city police have received several complaints about sidewalks being partially or totally blocked, requiring pedestrians to walk in the road.
VanDeusen said the situation creates a safety hazard for pedestrians, but also for neighbors who exit their driveways and encounter an obstructed view.
The Police Department advises tenants who have issues with parking to contact their landlords to make accommodations in compliance with the city code.
The police said warning tickets will be issued for vehicles in violation of blocking sidewalks for the next several days. However, starting Monday, parking tickets with a fine of $20 will be issued to vehicles in violation of the code.
