Up to foot of snow expected in area

ALBANY – The National Weather Service is predicting 6 to 12 inches of snowfall for the area. The snow will start tonight and end sometime Tuesday.

According to the service, the snow will be accompanied by winds blowing eastward from 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

The snowfall could get as heavy as 1 to 2 inches per hour, the service said.

Amsterdam’s Mayor Ann Thane announced a snow emergency has been declared, starting at 6 p.m. today, prohibiting streetside parking.

Gloversville Police Chief Donald VanDeusen said this morning the city, which recently lifted its overnight parking ban, is putting the ban back into effect until further notice. No vehicles are to be parked on city streets from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The city of Johnstown Police Department reminded citizens its parking ban is still in effect. All vehicles must be off the streets between midnight and 6 a.m. Violations may result in citations and the vehicle towed at the owner’s expense.
