Two injured in truck crash

EPHRATAH – Two people were injured in a crash involving two trucks Wednesday on New Turnpike Road at Route 10.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department said the crash occurred at 6:18 a.m. Wednesday. Truck driver Jason R. Matala, 33, of 874 River St., Troy, was operating a vehicle registered to Ryder Truck Rental of Rochester. He was hurt, complaining of a head injury, but declined immediate medical attention, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said Brian G. Randall, 31, of Dolgeville, was driving a pickup. He suffered an arm fracture and was transported by medical flight to the Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Deputies said Matala was traveling east on New Turnpike Road and Randall was southbound on Route 10. Matala failed to stop for a stop sign and a collision occurred, with the Matala truck rolling over on its right side and continuing off the road, knocking over a utility pole, underground power line box and a sign, and damaging a pole connected to the utility pole, officials said.

Matala was ticketed on a charge of failure to stop at a stop sign.
