Agricultural district being updated

FONDA – The Montgomery County Planning Department and Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board are updating Agricultural District No. 1, which includes the towns of Minden and Canajoharie.

Updates of the county’s agricultural districts take place every eight years, a news release said.

Letters are being sent to about 1,000 landowners. Included in the mailing is a worksheet that will help track district properties and information on farming operations, the release said.

“We’re asking everyone to complete the worksheets and let us know they want to stay in the district,” county Planner Doug Greene said in the release. Some property owners who are not in the district also are being invited to join it.

The deadline is Aug. 16 for submitting the update worksheet.

A 30-day public review period is required by the State Agriculture and Markets District program, the release said, which formally began June 20. Comments can be made on the status of the district or individual properties.

A map of Agriculture District No. 1 is posted in each town office, the county Clerk’s Office and at the Planning Office at the Old County Courthouse.
