AMSTERDAM – The Amsterdam Labyrinth and Peace Garden dedication ceremony will be held Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Labyrinth and Peace Garden are located on the south lawn at City Hall.
The labyrinth was built by many local residents, a news release said, beginning in the spring with the gathering of river rocks. Local organizations have painted rocks that are within the labyrinth, including the Amsterdam YMCA Summer Youth Program, the Creative Connections Arts Center Youth Program, as well as Amsterdam residents.
The dedication ceremony will feature a regional bagpiper, remarks by those instrumental in creating the project, a local drum circle and a ceremonial walk through the labyrinth.
The project was originally conceived by Gina Mintzer, local Amsterdam resident and built by Mintzer and Jeremy Spraggs of Gloversville. Many residents contributed time and effort to collect rocks and add them to the labyrinth, the release said.
The labyrinth will be open to the public daily and parking will be available at City Hall.
An area of the south lawn also was cleared and earmarked for a Peace Garden, the release said. Local residents have planted perennials and the garden will be an ongoing project, the release said.
