JOHNSTOWN – The city Police Department is urging businesses to contact police for an escort when dropping off money at city banks because of two recent incidents.
Chief Mark Gifford issued a news release Tuesday indicating during the past two weeks, two attempted strong-arm robberies have been reported to his department.
Gifford said both incidents occurred near NBT Bank’s money drop off on North Comrie Avenue. He said the perpetrator attempted to forcefully take a bank bag from a Burger?King employee in one incident and a Stewart’s Shops employee in the other. Both attempts were unsuccessful, police said. Gifford said the perpetrator is a male, who is 6 feet tall and was wearing a ski mask and gloves.
Police are urging all businesses to call the department for an escort to the bank when dropping off money. Any suspicious activity observed also should be reported to police.
