New conduct code approved for school

MAYFIELD – The Mayfield school board has adopted a new code of conduct that addresses bullying and cyberbullying.

Additions to the code, which were approved at the August Board of Education meeting, include prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity, gender expression, weight and physical appearance.

School officials said the additions were in line with the state Dignity for All Students Act.

The act, signed into law in 2010, says students are entitled to a “safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.”

Principal Chris Wojeski said another major change in the code includes measures that cover social media.
