Historical event slated at Clermont

GERMANTOWN — On March 19 at 1 p.m., Clermont State Historic Site will present a talk by Curator of Collections Geoff Benton, Education Assistant Emily Robinson and New York State Interpretive Programs Coordinator Kjirsten Gustavson that will explore three scandals from the Livingston family’s past. Come spend the afternoon hearing all the Livingston gossip. 

Subjects covered will include:

∫ Chancellor Robert R. Livingston’s involvement with Benedict Arnold and his wife;

∫ Serena Livingston’s paramours, including Washington Irving and a member of the Lee family of Virginia; and

∫ Nancy Shippen, a Philadelphia socialite who found her marriage to the black sheep of the Livingston family to be anything but what she hoped for.
