Caraco appointed to HFM-BOCES board

JOHNSTOWN — Carmen Caraco of Mayfield has been appointed to the board of Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES Board of Education to fill the vacancy created by the June death of board member David Edwards.

Caraco’s board seat, which Edwards had held since 1980, will be up for election this spring during the annual vote by the component BOCES school boards.

A Johnstown native, Caraco worked as an ASE- and Ford-certified mechanic until he retired in 2016 after a 43-year career. During his time in the automotive industry, Caraco served as a mentor to students and evaluated programs for the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES.

Caraco served on the Mayfield Central School District board of rducation from 1999 to 2004 and was the board president during his final year.

He is also a former elder and treasurer of his church. In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, travel, photography and repairing all things mechanical. Caraco is currently working part time restoring vintage jukeboxes.

He and his wife, Michelle, have seven children, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
