Master gardener slated to speak

ESPERANCE — Ed Radle, a chemist and master gardener. will speak on fermentation basics from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Landis Arboretum meeting house 174 Lape Road.

According to a news release, fermented foods have been around for thousands of years. In addition to being a method of preserving foods using yeast (wine, beer) and bacteria (sauerkraut, yogurt), fermentation produces foods that are rich sources of probiotics, organisms that are gaining recognition as beneficial to intestinal and overall health.

The cost will be, for members: $5 per person or $15 per family, and for nonmembers: $15 per person or $25 per family.
