Church set to hold gun buy-back program

AMSTERDAM —  In an effort to make Amsterdam safer, the Rev. William Hodgetts Jr. of the Trinity Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Ave., will accept any working handguns from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 2, in its Gifts for Guns gun buy-back program.

The church will offer a $100 gift card for a gun, no questions asked. The program allows people to hand in weapons anonymously without fear of being prosecuted for illegal gun possession.

The church program will be held in conjunction with the Amsterdam Police Department and Montgomery County District Attorney Kelli McCoski.
