Rabies clinic set for Saturday

FONDA — A rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Mohawk Town Barn, 2–4 Park St., sponsored by Montgomery County Public Health.

The veterinarian administration fee for rabies vaccine is $10 per vaccine. Other vaccines will be available at additional fees.

To assure the safety of other pets and people, dogs must be leashed, and cats and ferrets must be contained in a pet carrier or box when attending the rabies clinic.

State Public Health Law requires that all dogs, cats and domestic ferrets have initial vaccinations against rabies no later than 4 months of age and stay up to date with revaccinations. Revaccinations are required a year later and a booster shot every three years. It is important to have pets vaccinated in a timely manner in order for the pet to be considered protected against the virus. Pet owners should bring proof of their pet’s last rabies vaccination. This helps the veterinarian determine whether the pet will receive a one- or three-year vaccination. Without it, the pet will receive a one-year vaccination only.

For more information about rabies, call Montgomery County Public Health at (518) 853-3531 Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or a veterinarian.
