Frothingham Free Library sets artwork display for September

FONDA — The Frothingham Free Library, 28 W. Main St., will have the quilt-fabric artwork of Kathleen T. Oughton on display at this library this month during the regular library hours all this month, according to a news release.

Oughton received a New York State Individual Artist Grant in 2004 for perennial dye garden with a wall hanging of natural dyed materials using some undocumented perennial dyes. She gave a presentation for the New York State Federated Garden Club District V Standard Flower Show and won the New York State First Place Award. She was submitted for National Competition to Federated Garden Clubs of America.

In 2002 she also received a New York State Individual Artist Grant for historical wall hanging celebrating the town of Ephratah’s 175th anniversary; three individual framed hangings; two of photos on fabric and one with hand embroidered and hand quilted original map. They are on display at the Saltsman’s Hotel, Ephratah.

Oughton, a quilter for about 30 years, does hand quilting, piecing, machine quilting and fabric dyeing and has been a member of various quilt clubs. She has participated in quilt competitions, both nationally and internationally, and has taught and lectured on the topic of quilting in many different forms.
