FONDA — The Glen-Mohawk Seniors regular weekly meeting on Tuesday, was called to order by President Joe Mancini at 10:30 a.m. Chaplain Allan Taylor gave the opening prayer which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the group singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” accompanied by Barbara Furman at the piano. Vice President Gloria Kimball took the roll call with 25 present.
Mancini introduced the guest speakers, Jon Thompson, Jack Phillips and Richard Westfall, from the Fonda-Fultonville Community Foundation, who spoke on an aspect of this group “that was created as a grassroots effort in 2016 by a group of civic minded community members that saw a need for a local community-based organization to provide funding to various organizations in the area.” The orders are being taken for commemorative bricks that come in three sizes, priced at $50 and $100. They are being placed outside in a special area behind the school as well as inside on a wall in the lobby. Another fundraiser will be a chicken barbecue in May 2019. The foundation’s first grant will be awarded at a ceremony on Dec. 4, to benefit the food pantry. They are recruiting new members. A larger group will provide more new ideas and fundraising abilities. They are a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are non-taxable.
Lu Wilmot has 46 people going on the trip to Holyoke, Mass. on today. She is taking signups for the Dec. 5, day trip to Turning Stone.
The Christmas party will be Dec. 18, at the Winner’s Circle.
Alan Buck has a name badge campaign running to Dec. 11, for those who want to order. The price is $2.50. The price is $7.50 with $2.50 off for new members.
The monthly social event dates for 2019 have been selected by each table. Mary Fox conducted the prize drawings. The winners were Mancini and Florence Stanton.
The meeting adjourned. Furman gave the closing prayer. Bingo was played after the meeting with Peggy LaBarge calling numbers.
The next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20, at the Fonda Reformed Church hall. The club is open to anyone 55 years of age and older.
