Trip to Maine planned for 2019

FONDA — The regular weekly meeting of Glen-Mohawk Seniors was called to order by President Joe Mancini at 10:30 a.m. Allan Taylor gave the opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Barbara Furman accompanied at the piano while the group sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” Vice President Gloria Kimball took the roll call with 32 members and guests, Lisa Berg and Roy Dimond present. The report of Betsy Saltsman, secretary, was accepted as read. The report of Olive Taylor, treasurer, was saved for audit. Phyllis Smith, sunshine secretary, read a thank you note from Mom’s Morning Out, for the donations of gifts to be used for the children’s shopping experience. A sympathy card was sent to the family of Anna Suits and Christmas cards will be sent this week. Everyone wished Esther Porcello a Happy Birthday.

Lu Wilmot gave a financial report for the Nov. 16, trip to Holyoke.

Wilmot announced she is now taking reservations for the 2019 Diamond Tours trip, Maine to the Maine coast, May 20 to 24. The price is $479. A deposit of $75 is required at signup. Trip insurance is available. Final payment is due March 13. For more information, contact Wilmot at (518) 853-3906.

Florence Stanton is taking reservations for the Christmas party on Dec. 18, at Winner’s Circle. Alan Buck is taking orders for name badges. Tuesday is the last day for both endeavors.

The basket was passed for a free-will donation in support of St. Mary’s Hospital Christmas lights in memory of departed loved ones. A collection was also taken for the Fonda-Fultonville Central School Backpack Program.

Mancini presented D. Dorine Dimond with an Honorary Membership Certificate in observance of her 90th birthday. Dimond, who has been a member for 27 years, introduced son, Roy Dimond, who attended the celebration. Olive Taylor delivered a rose bouquet to Dimond’s home on the birthday because the meeting had been canceled due to bad weather. A birthday cake and ice cream was served and everyone sang “Happy Birthday.”

Mary Fox held the prize drawing with Furman’s help. The winners were Mancini and Lois Collins.

The meeting adjourned. Allan Taylor gave the closing prayer.

Following the meeting, bingo was played with Peggy LaBarge calling the numbers.

The refreshment committee consisted of Mancini, Esther Porcello, Pat Putman and Gretha Russell.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, at the Fonda Reformed Church hall beginning at 10:30 a.m. with a social hour before the meeting. The guests will be Fonda-Fultonville Central School District Superintendent Tom Ciaccio with musical students from the school, who will give a preview of the music they will perform at the high school and middle school concerts.
