Mayfield annual winter carnival slated

MAYFIELD — The Mayfield Community Group’s annual winter carnival will be held on Saturday on the Mayfield Lake, Pump House Road (located off Woodside Avenue). Due to the weather this week, it will be slippery. It is advisable to wear cleats, according to a news release.

The following are the scheduled events.

∫ From 8 a.m. to noon will be a youth fishing contest, up to 15 years old with a parent. The winners will be announced at noon. Sign up at the Fuel & Food, Route 30, for the fishing contest.

∫ At 11 a.m. all other events begin.

∫ Until 1 p.m. will be a kids, women and men frying pan contest. The winners will be announced at 1 p.m. and participants do not have to be present to receive prize.

∫ At 12:15 p.m. will be a kids cardboard box derby, up to age 12. The box must be made out of cardboard — kids can use glue, duct tape, paint, etc. Absolutely no sled can be attached to the box. The prizes will be for most original, most creative, best overall and travelling the farthest.

The other events include broom ball, ice skating, football toss, kids hockey puck game and ice bowling.
