Addiction seminar slated for June 9

CANAJOHARIE — The “Victory over Addictions,” a seminar on Christian principles for living clean and sober, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 8 at the Faith, Hope and Love Christian Church, 50 E. Main St., (downstairs at United Methodist Church), according to a news release.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Virgil Stokes, a former addict and alcoholic, who has held this seminar in many communities giving Biblical help for the families, the helpers, the addict and alcoholic. With experience, he will give facts, advice, and resource material.

Stokes, a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center, worked in the treatment of drug addiction at the Oklahoma City Veteran’s Hospital and at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa. Stokes, who has been in full-time ministry since 1981, is the author of two books on recovery, “God Help Me, I Can’t Stop” and “Seven Principles of Recovery.”
