Donations needed for annual campaign

GLOVERSVILLE The Fulton County Children’s Committee is sending out letters to its mailing list to seek donations for its annual fund campaign to aid needy children.

The group was organized in 1927 to give financial assistance to the Department of Social Services-sponsored foster families in the county.

Donations help in various ways, including monthly allowance to all school-age foster children, birthday cards and presents, tutoring and special educational assistance, summer camp assistance for underprivileged and handicapped children. Funds are provided for unexpected expenses that would put a burden on a family.

For children being adopted from the foster program, the committee provides funds for a special celebration. Its most recent project involves go-bags of personal care items. These are back packs filled with the items needed when a child is suddenly brought to a foster home. This can be a very stressful time for everyone involved. Also, handcrafted stuffed animals have been donated to the group to be given out as well.

Members of the committee are Ron Briggs, president; Karen Hinderliter, secretary; Christine Putnam, treasurer, Beth Whitman-Putnam, membership; and Millie Busch, Dinah Dittmar, Randy Smith and Doreen Ford.

Anyone wishing to become a member or to make a donation should send their contact information or a check to Fulton County Children’s Committee, P.O. Box 123, Gloversville NY 12078
