Fundraising event slated for today

GLOVERSVILLE — The North Main Street United Methodist Church will hold a fundraising event from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gloversville McDonald’s, according to a news release.

The funds raised will go to purchase cat food for the pet food pantry at the church, 316 N. Main St.; the only pet food pantry within the city. The food is available at the regular food pantry held on the third Monday of each month. The food pantry is open to everyone, no questions asked.

At the August food pantry, 73 families were served with a total of 221 people; 48 church families participated in the animal mission; 158 animals were provided food — 93 cats and 65 dogs. Pets are considered part of each family at the food pantry and pet food is a luxury for some families and they cannot afford to purchase additional food for them. There is a tremendous need in our area to help pets, both cats and dogs. The church hopes to meet some of these needs.

For more information about the pet food pantry, contact Pastor Joyce Royal at (518) 774-5849 or James Medbury at (518) 848-4753. Financial donations are always accepted.
