Senior Center open house on Thursday

JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown Senior Center and 50 Plus Club will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the center, 109 E. Main St. This is open to the public, according to a news release.

All are invited to come and have some free pizza and a tossed salad while listening to some music from members of the Johnstown High School band and find out all about the activities at the center.

There will also be demonstrations and information on what the center offers such as art classes, yoga classes, chair caning and trips including to the Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes Holiday Show.

Those attending will be able to find out about what the 50 Plus Club does. They have speakers, free movie days and games.

One of the most important things the 50 Plus Club does is try to give back to the community that has given the seniors the senior center facility and during the open house that continues with a silent auction. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Johnstown High School Music Support Group, which is trying to raise $50,000 to keep up music and art programs that might be cut due to school district budget cuts.

There will be a variety of items for the auction ranging in value from $25 to over $200, including a pair of tickets to see Trans Siberian Orchestra at the Times Union Center on Dec. 19.

In addition to the free pizza and salad, anyone attending can register to win a $50 gift card to Stewart’s Shops, no purchase necessary.
