‘Stories Behind the Stones’ tour slated

JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown Historical Society will present a living history walking tour, “Stories Behind The Stones,” at the Johnstown Cemetery on North Perry St. on Saturday, Sept. 21. The tours will begin at 1 p.m. and go every 15 minutes until the last tour departs at 2:30 p.m., according to a news release.

The costumed guides will lead tour groups down winding roads dotted with elaborate headstones. The past will come alive as actors introduce themselves as notable former residents. This year, in celebration of “The Year of the Glove,” the society will feature many leather and glovemaking business people who were instrumental in shaping the city of Johnstown and beyond. The information boards with historical facts will mark the path.

This is a walking tour which will take about 90 minutes. The ground may be somewhat uneven so wear comfortable shoes.

The tickets are $10; free for children younger than age 12. The tickets are available the day of the event. The rain date will be Sept. 22.
